Chaifetz School Management Professor Receives Editorial Award from the Journal of AIS

Chaifetz School of Business, was honored in December by the Journal of the Association of Information Systems for his work as a senior editor to guide the top paper of the year to publication. The 2019 award marked the second time in five years Dr. Niederman has been recognized for his editorial work for the JAIS.
鈥淭his is a great honor, particularly as it comes for contributing to the intellectual development of the information systems field,鈥� Niederman said. 鈥淓diting entails recognizing potential in a raw manuscript and working with reviewers and authors to polish that into an amazing contribution. It is a quiet, behind the scenes task crucial to the development of a field鈥檚 body of knowledge.鈥�
Niederman was selected for his editorial contributions on the 2018 JAIS Best Paper Award-winning publication 鈥淓motional Attachment, Performance, and Viability in Teams Collaborating with Embodied Physical Action (EPA) Robots,鈥� authored by Sangseok You and Lionel P. Robert Jr. The paper examines the interaction between human reactions and preferences when the design of 鈥渞obots鈥� varies in terms of its human interface. The authors suggest that humans prefer robots that are neither 鈥渢oo human-like鈥� nor that do not display enough 鈥渉umanity.鈥�
鈥淚t was a pleasure working on this particular paper,鈥� said Niederman. 鈥淭he authors were responsive to supportive criticism and had such an important and timely topic to investigate.鈥�
The 2019 editorial award was presented to Dr. Niederman by JAIS Editor-in-Chief Dorothy Leidner, Ferguson Professor of Information Systems at Baylor University, at the International Conference on Information Systems held in Munich, Germany. Known as the most prestigious gathering of information systems academics and research-oriented practitioners in the world, the annual conference features approximately 270 papers and panel presentations selected from over 800 submissions each year.
